How would we accurately quantify the ethnicity and gender of America’s veterans throughout history?

According to Google, much different than you may think. If I were to guess from the vague ethnic veterans in the image Google has in the above, there are three Hispanics to every two blacks to every two whites. No Asians, by the way, they always seem to get shafted. Of the veterans, there is a three to four ratio of women to men. The Jury is out if any of the veterans above are transgender or polygender, and not being accurately represented by my crude approximations.

According to the US Census, over 65 percent of living veterans are of European descent (“White”). Females presently make up ten percent of the military.

Now, nothing in the above is racist or hateful. They are the facts. But, why have we become a society where the facts hurt people’s feelings?

Perhaps answering the following questions will help us answer the above one:

1. Why did Google choose the odd proportions of people that they did?

Well, only Google has the real answer to this question, but I will venture a guess. It’s the PC thing to do. The cultural intelligentsia thinks they can undo generations of socioeconomic inequality between different classifications of people (race, gender, sexuality, etcetera) by using images and media to over-represent the presently under-represented. The intended effect is that eventually, this affects the thought patterns of society at large and eventually bridges the gap of inequality.

For example, I did a non-scientific test just this second: I Googled a local New York energy company (“ConEdison Truck“) and the following was the first picture I found where you can clearly see a person’s face:

Now, be honest with yourself. Is there a high probability of that woman showing up with a hardhat on to fix that blown transformer outside your building? No. In fact, the chances might literally be less than 1 out of 1,000. Yet, if you have ever seen the ConEd trucks and the amount of women they show, you would think that ConEd is equivalent to Ghaddafi’s Amazons (an all-female security force he had, equipped with uniforms and guns.)

2. Why is it a big deal to write about?

It is a big deal to because the truth is a big deal. We are fast becoming a society that is totally disconnected from the truth, because the truth hurts people’s feelings. This societal immaturity has to stop, because it can reach a point where it can become very dangerous.

For example, global warming. Some people yell, “Well, some poor people will freeze to death because they won’t be able to pay for their heating.” This is an emotional argument, but we need to separate emotion from reality.

Is the statement true? Let’s talk about it. What are the costs? Can we do something about it? What are the effects on other poor people if we do nothing?

Whether or not some people are offended should not be the point at issue. What does matter are the costs, the effects on those who cannot afford sufficient heating oil, the extent in which it could affect us i the future, and what we can do about it. We need to ask reasonable questions and look for reasonable answers. Why? Because the truth matters!

In the book Fahrenheit 451 Ray Bradbury envisioned that books would start offending this or that identity group until society would start burning them wholesale. We might not be burning books, but we will happily destroy careers and ostracize people who may think that “transgender” is not gender at all. After all, a reasonable person might think this is an issue that has been definitively answered by geneticists, who now for decades have known that men have different chromosomes then women. Don’t let the truth get in the way! Crass emotionalism (“hate speech!”) rules the day, so that emotionalism trumps science. Political correctness trumps truth.

Now, is Google having a racially disproportionate image such a big deal the world is going to explode? No. However, it is symptomatic of a society that does not see how steadily ill it is growing and how out of touch with reality it really is.

3. What on Earth does this have to do with a website devoted to religion?

Christianity is a religion of truth. Jesus Christ, God Almighty, said when He was on Earth, “I am the way, the truth, and the light, no man comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).

But men do not love truth. “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness” (Rom 1:18). The confused society that does not like honest portrayals of gender and race simply suppresses the truth, just as anyone who wants to ignore the obvious that a physically healthy girl with two X chromosomes is a girl. But, people suppress the truth all the time.

All people lie. Infants lie, this has been scientifically proven. Yet no one had to ever teach them how to do that. We have a problem, a sin problem. It is part of being human.

People know that God is real and He is just, for “which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse” (Rom 1:19-20).

We know, deep down, lying is wrong. We know that being dishonest, simply to make people feel better, is not really the right thing to do. However, as Saint Augustine warned centuries ago:

And so in our own times: many forms of sin, though not just the same as those of Sodom and Gomorrha, are now so openly and habitually practised, that not only dare we not excommunicate a layman, we dare not even degrade a clergyman, for the commission of them…For it is only when we are not accustomed to them that we shrink from them: when once we are accustomed to them…constant familiarity leads to the toleration of them all, and habitual toleration leads to the practice of many of them (Chapter 80, Handbook on Faith, Hope, and Love).

A society that puts up with race and gender confusion is simply approving of dishonesty and dressing it up in high and mighty words. Just as clergymen in Augustine’s time would commit sins that they should have lost their jobs for due to “constant familiarity” leading to their toleration, we are fast becoming a society that sees the images like the one on Google and does not even question whether or not what is being portrayed is anywhere close to the truth.

What makes people feel good trumps the truth. As for me, the truth is what makes me feel good.

And the truth is that I am liar and bombastic blowhard who is grateful that God knows I am sinful and has sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross in my place so that my sins are paid for and I am right with God. All the world’s liars, thieves, murders, and perverts have the same God, and He desires that none may perish but all may come to repentance by turning away from their sin and trusting in what Jesus did on the cross.

Props to Yahoo and Bing for not devolving into Politically Correct, historically inaccurate, drivel.
