Perhaps no single institution commands the devotion of more believers than the Papacy. Many believe the Pope of Rome possesses an infallible authority instituted by the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. But, is this indeed the case?
Engaging for scholars and laymen alike, The Rise and Fall of the Papacy is a groundbreaking analysis of the origin and ecclesiastical transformation of the pre-schism Church of Rome. Century by century, author Patrick Truglia combs through an array of sources spanning the entire first millennium, including the Talmud, Holy Scriptures, Oecumenical Councils, and new translations of Papal correspondence. Uncovering the jurisdictional subterfuge of the Easter Controversy, the untold story of the Church of Rome reforming Pope Stephen’s sacramentology, the depositions and anathematization of Popes, and much more, one discovers the macrohistorical importance of Anastasius the Librarian. Once shrouded in mystery, this backroom actor rises from the status of laicized cleric to anti-Pope and finally to the puppet-master behind the most influential Papal chanceries of the 9th century. Due to this one man’s extensive work, the Papacy was reinvented and western Christianity has never been the same since.

Dear Craig: I have begun to read your book and I have found it useful. Still, on another question that is a problem I have, I seem to recall reading that Peter Lombard, who defends the Latin-Carolingian Papacy, wrote in his book, “The Sentences: Book I – The Mystery of the Trinity”, Giulio Silano, trans. PIMS Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies, Toronto, ON, Canada, 2006; Lombard seems to teach the Holy Spirit began to be in time, has His existence in time, am I wrong? Have I misread Lombard Sentences book 1? Can you please take time to read this book carefully, and confirm and verify my suspicion, or show me that I am mistaken and misreading Lombard? Thank you. Happy new year, Craig. Scott Harrington saint andrew of valaam association wordpress.com
Craig Truglia: I read some of your book, and it answered almost every question I have on how the Roman-Frankish papacy developed from the previously Orthodox papacy of Rome; Trinity”.But please answer me on Peter Lombard, “The Sentences: Book 1 – The Mystery of the Trinity”, Giulio Silano, trans. (2006). Toronto, ON, Canada: PIMS Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies, Book I, Distinction XXIX Ch. 1 (125), on beginning. 2 (126), That the Father is the beginning from eternity, and so is the Son, but not the Holy Spirit. 3 (127) How the Father is the beginning of the Son, and he and the Son the beginning of the Holy Spirit. 4 (128) Whether it is by the same notion that Father and Son are the beginning of the Holy Spirit. What do these sections mean, Craig?

None of what you wrote sound even remotely honest.
All of what I wrote sounds completely honest to everyone who’s honest. You’re just a normie npc. You most likely put on that mask and took that vaxx which would explain a lot. New York City black kids are smarter than you. Don’t be an American your whole life.
The Rise and Fall of the Papacy: An Orthodox Perspective by Patrick (Craig) Truglia is a well researched and sourced historical study of Church conciliarity, papal prerogatives, and the sowing of “all the seeds of Vatican I’s conception of the Papacy” by the 10th century. This study focuses primarily upon geopolitical factors and motivations, touching upon theological issues merely en passant. Only a few points are problematic, in my unauthoritative judgement, but these points of contention do not contradict the book’s overall thesis and conclusion. Theological insufficiencies, however, allow for an interpretation compatible with the current ecumenical agenda of the Vatican and Ecumenical Patriarchate, not to mention the Moscow Patriarchate, which the author may not have intended.

I enjoyed reading your review.
My big takeaway, after reading it, is that politics seems to invade, impede, and corrupt just about every institution that humans have. And it does not matter even if it was the Kingdom of God (AKA the Universal Church). The politics corrupts that as well, or at least makes a good try.
And it’s a testament to God’s power and knowledge, that even with ALL the politics present in the Church, that He still makes His truth know and His will done.
